What was your most successful FB POST IN 2019? What was your biggest FB blunder? Inspire others with your stories. How do you get around words FB does not like us to use such as – share, like us, sale, free, download…? Did you know that FB will reduce your reach when you use these and other words in your post? Sign up for our marketing newsletter and receive a list of over 15 Facebook business groups that you can use to expand your business outreach, www.lillerdesignworks.com (scroll down to the bottom of the page).

Yes, I have made a lot of the classic FB blunders. I have learned from my mistakes and hope this list of dos and don’ts will help you!

  • DOs AND DON’Ts

  • DON’T USE TOO MUCH INFO (TMI)

  • DO keep post simple - less content is better Comment: I have a hard time with this one to this day.

  • DON’T SHARE

THE SAME POSTS TO FB GROUPS ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

Many groups overlap. People get tired of receiving the same notice over and over.

  • DO spread post over a number of days, during different times of day. It's like drip marketing. Comment: Oh yeah, I realized this was an issue when I kept getting popups about someone else who was posting to over a dozen different FB groups I belonged to, all at one time.

  • DON’T SELL!

  • DO try the 90%/10% mix. 90% interesting info, funny stories, surveys; be interactive and ask questions. 10 % about your business, promos, product, or service.

  • DON’T ASK PEOPLE TO SHARE POST or LIKE POST*. FB does not like this and it will decrease your organic reach. If you require people to share or like your page as a part of entering a contest, or in order to receive a free giveaway: this is a real Facebook “no, no.” It is called “Like and Share Bating.” This is against FB contest rules and FB might disable your page as a result.

  • DO be sure to read FB contest rules. Here are some othter resources for you: “Facebook’s contest rules,” ShortStack’s blog about 8 Facebook Competition Rules You Should Never Ignore.

Comment: OH SNAP, I did this before I realized it was against FB rules to require someone to like or comment on your post to enter a contest. I quickly changed my post and rules for the contest to comply with FB rules.

  • DON’T HAVE TOO MUCH TEXT OVERLAYING YOUR VISUAL GRAPHICS If there is too much text or it is too small, no one will read it (over the image).

  • DO limit text in your image and use large text. Put the details of the post and links with more info below the image. Try using CANVA to create your visual graphic for your post.

Comment: One of my New Year’s resolutions to not post whenever I feel like it and use a scheduling app and pay attention to the best times to post.

  • DON’T IGNORE OTHER PEOPLE’S POSTS

  • DO respond to other posts especially if you like them.

Comment: If we are so busy trying to get our post out there and we forget to interact and respond to other peoples posts then we are likely to be ignored.

  • DON’T USE ENGAGEMENT BAIT WORDS* Free | buy now | anniversary | congratulations | like us | share | comment on this post | sponsor |subscribe | sign up | % off | discount | sale | download | today only | limited time| too many exclamation points!

  • FB can block your post from being seen from part of your audience.

  • DO use words like these instead: partner | collaborate | gift ideas | grab it | go here.

Comment: The more articles I read, the more words I find you should avoid on FB because FB will reduce my reach.

* Engagement bait is a tactic to create Facebook posts that goad people into interacting, through likes, shares, comments, and other actions, in order to artificially boost engagement and get greater reach on News Feed. Posts and Pages that use this tactic will be demoted.” According to FB source. Inspire others with your FB stories. How do you avoid using words FB does not like and can reduce your reach?
